Recomended breeders/stores

AaronFromPA Jul 17, 2004 09:06 PM

I am looking for a good place to buy my first pair of Leopard Geckos. I have no pet store worth speaking of within 100 miles and will need to order off the internet. Can anyone recommend a breeder or shop? Also any comments on www.reptiledepot.com or lllreptile.com?

I am not looking for anything fancy. Just two female leopard geckos.

Watch out for resellers like lll and rep...depot. They do NOT breed their animals, they resell like a pet store would. I knwo people have gotten great animals and others have not.
Of course I would say myself... but here are some others.

I has used and recommend:
K & N (http://www.knreptiles.com/)
Masterpeice Geckos (http://www.masterpiecegeckos.com/)
Garrick (crestedgecko.com)

Others I have not used but have heard great things about:
Golden Gate(http://www.goldengategeckos.com/) - I know she handles every lizard from birth so they are usually very tame.

Albey's (http://www.albeysreptiles.com/)

Thank you very much for all the sites. I have been to your site before and your geckos are awesome but I just want two regular ol leopard geckos. I can not really afford all that designer stuff. Do you offer any plain guys or are all your designer?

At the moment I only have designer available. I was looking to get a group of breeders for normals to help steady out the cashflow a little bit. Maybe a group of like 2.8 or 3.12. Oh well that will be when I decide to build a new rack (I filled up the one I made in June already... lol). Oh well designers for now.

I don't have any plans... but I'll give you a quick explanation on the one I did earlier this year. My new one will probably be a lot taller... but here goes...

Menards (like home depot or lowes), up here in WI has sheets of melamine in different sizes. I used:
(1) 6' sheet (23 1/4" wide, 3/4" thick)
(5) 4' sheets smae width and thickness
20 boxes from target (sterlite)

I cut the 6' in half to make the sides of the rack.

I measured my boxes and determined I could get 5 shelves (3 using shoeboxes and 2 using bigger, flatter ones).

I then routed in each side a groove for each chelve to fit in. Put it together with screws and wood glue in the grooves.

Waited a few hours to dry, and set up the heat tape for belly heat and used aluminum foil tape to secure it.

The front is about 80 degrees and the back is around 88 and I use a repti-temp 500 with probe for a thermostat (my new rack will use a Ranco).

I have also stopped using the masking tape and bought a labeler from target. I keep the name, sex, dob, and weights right on the box. Seems to work pretty well. I know there are a few sites that will help you build a couple of different sizes.
