bearded swiming?

xboxplayer Jul 17, 2004 11:17 PM

i was wondering because i read here that some bearded dragons like to swim. so i filled up my sink and let my bearded dragon swim in it he seamed to really like it. so i was wondering is it ok to let him swim in a regular pool? as long as i wash him off afterwards or ar the chimicals that are in the pools really bad for the bearded dragon?

thanks if you respond to this question.

Not advisable, some pools have chemicals worse then others, ( bacquacil vs. chlorine) but either way it isnt very smart to do.

I've seen my beardie paddle around at times.. but can they actually stay afloat and swim? I'm not going to try lol.. but it seems odd to me for some reason.

You shouldnt even be putting your dragon in deep water. the water it is in should be shallow enough so that your dragon can touch the bottom and rest. and it needs to be luke warm.

If you want to let him swim outside, get a samll kiddie pool and fill it up, place something he can climb on and bask if he wants. That way you avoid possible high cholorine and the dragon can be safe with resting when needed

Yes, some do love to swim and they also love to dive under water and freak you out how long they stay down. Make sure you stay with him when he is in water.

well Cheri, you beat me to it this time. I was going to post about your using a kiddie pool. so I guess I'll post my pic instead

I check my chem levels to make sure they are at a minimum level before letting any of my animals in the pool. It's also a good idea to get them tpo poop first.

My lizards and snakes all love to swim.

hi i was wondering what levels do the chimicals need to be at and what do use to test it with just a regular pool tester or do i need something more accurate.
also im assumeing that if i fill the kiddie pool id need to get bottled water because city water has chicmicals in it and im all but sure that well water is not a good idea right?

those pics of the dragon in the water are AWSOME! My dragon loves to swim, but I only place her in the sink to bathe and to go potty. She always tries to place her head under, but i thought it was really bad for them, and the water would get in her ears! I'm so excited! I'm getting her a kiddy pool right away! Thanks guys!

My beardies HATE the water, but those kiddie pools look like so much fun!

Maybe I'll just get one for myself. lol

you may be surprised as I was... get yourself a pool test kit and test your tap water. I keep my pool properly PH balanced and the minimum clorine level (sometimes less than tap water). if you want to use the kiddie pool, assuming you have really bad water, put in a capful of bleach for every 5 gallons of water and let the water stand for a day so the minerals and chemicals can evaporate off.
