Well. Well. Well.

In answer to your question: it is because the males are musky. You will notice that the males smell much worse than the females. I won't even have any males inside the house, they smell so bad. I only keep one male. He is outside the house along with non-pregnant females. After I know that the females are pregnant, I move them inside the house.

These pregnant and nursing females don't smell! So one answer to your question is only keep one male and keep him in a different place because he will stink up the place.

You can bring the females into the house and they don't smell.

Another solution is to go to rats. I used to have a mental barrier about them because they were RATS. But really, they make so much better feeders. You don't have to wait for them to put on weight. They are eating sized right away! They don't smell near as bad and they don't eat their babies as much as mice do. Rats are smarter too. And friendly.

I got over my mental barrier and will soon start having rats in my house. Actually I already own rats but they are currently being raised by a neighbor because back then I thought rats would smell too bad. The neighbor was willing to house them for me. They just had babies and the babies are one week old and they are already the size of full adult mice! MMMMmmmm MMMmmmm Good for eating. Yummy Yummy Food for my beautiful snakes. I am sure they are going to be yummy yummy good!

I'll snap some photos soon.

cheers. Happy feedings.

I don't have another extra cage right nw but as soon as one clears up I'll give it a try...maybe keep the male in the basement...
I use frozen rat pups for when I'm in need of extras. I don't feed snakes and my herps are either too small right now or too small period for anything larger then rat infants ( newborns). If the rat got a little too big I would be screwed.
When my Tegus get larger then they will be eating full grown rats...only thing is a big rat would have to be frozen because I would be afraid of what might happen...
Thanks for the info on males I never knew it wa them who stunk like that!
