I have a 4 year old, 6.5 ft male BCI who I've had since he was about 8 months old and 4 ft long. The first year I had him he was a very eager feeder on anything put in front of him.. fresh killed.. frozen/thawed... etc etc. In the past 2 years I've noticed a trend though. It doesn't concern me because he doesn't lose any weight...but from mid-October to mid-April he goes on a hunger strike. Won't eat at all no matter how long he's left with a prey item. Tease feeding him never results in a strike. He won't touch it... He never strikes at his food (Jumbo rats)..it just has to be layed near him in his feeding container and after an hour or so he decides to eat.. sometimes. But its very sporadic...even during summer months.... sometimes he'll take a prey item every 2 weeks.. other times goes 4 and 5 weeks without touching anything despite it being offered. He thoroughly confuses me.. because he'll allow me to watch him eat...take pictures and what not...I know as they age their food intake decreases...but I see other people talking about how hard their animals hit food.. and I compare them to Sutekh...and he just never strikes for food..not anymore. He's never hissed.. bit or struck at anyone either. Do I just have an odd boa or what? *L* His temps are constant and have been since I got him so that would have nothing to do with it. He's never been ill...has vet check ups once a year...though I haven't done it yet this year so I haven't been able to weight him. Which brings me to my last question.. how much should a 6.5 ft male boa actually weigh in terms of an ideal? Sorry so long.. just curious really if other people see this type of behavior in their animals at all...
