worms?

bloodroses19 Jul 18, 2004 09:26 AM

hey guys. today spike pooped in his food dish. and i saw something in it that looked like two peices of rice. one was on the poo and one next to it. they were not moving. but were clear. i feed him a meal worm yesterday as a treet. but that is the only thing different that he has been feed. could it be a peice of the worm? do you think he has worms? if he did wouldnt they be moving? can you buy wormer at the pet store or do you have to get it from the vet? im going to keep checking and see if i see it again.let me know what you guys think. none of my reptiles ever had worms. so i dont really know what to look for.
thanks for any help

That sounds like Tape Worms to me. That happened to my son's iguana. I was taking a fecal sample to the vet and on my way there I noticed the "rice" in it. The vet has to give your uro worm meds. There are no wormer on the market to take care of it correctly.

yeah my uro just had them and i had to take her to the vet. they put a tiny injection into her back twice (two weeks apart)and she was as good as new, gaining lots of weight (20 grams in two weeks)and becoming very very wicked.

He will be OK. Glad that you are taking him to the vet. Tape worms are so gross. They will give meds and you will see in a few days the food intake will increase and so will the weight. Good luck.

thats what is weird, he eats fine, his eating habits have not changed at all, he is still playful, and alert. but today when i feed him i saw he had lost even more weight. he is getting them skin flap thingies. but i guess thats because of the tape worm. its just weird to see your uro eat like a pig and lose so much weight. well only one more day. your right im sure he will be fine. i usually play with him alot and take him out of the cage to run around a few times a day. should i leave him alone untill the worms are gone. i have been mooping the floor before taking any of my other lizards out. is that enough? thank you
