youre always on top of it when i have a bug question...

i noticed something weird with one of my silks

most of them are getting quite big now and some have already spun cocoons but heres the weird thing:

i have this one silk in particular that was very fat, as fat as a fullgrown , but only about 3/4 inch long

well this morning i went to check on them and the short fat one had turned into... well i dunno what. its the same size it used to be but now it doesnt have a head and it doesnt move, and its all a sort of dark brown color

it resembles a sort of cocoon, but it is nothing like the other cocoons i have. the others look like cotton balls, this one looks like a small dead leaf rolled into a cylindrical shape

ever seen anything like this?

also: ive noticed that some of the smaller ones are spitting out a lot more silk than usual, but theyre only about half the size of a fullgrown, could they be trying to spin cocoons regadless? i thought they had to be fat and about 3 inches long before they were ready for metamorphosis

that was a mouthful...
