UV lighting?

savvgawd Jul 18, 2004 06:09 PM

Is it necessary? My girlfriend has a Cham living in my house so I don't take care of it too much, right now I have a regular 60 watt house bulb for the lgihting source. Recently we have noticed the cham shaking a lot almost as if his bones have weakend or somthing along those lines. Could it be from the lack of UV lighting? I said no because none of my other animals use them and has been doing great. Any help is appreciated.

UVB lighting is a MUST! Otherwise MBD will set in, plus without the UVB to make vitamin D3 calcium and some other vitamins and minerals are not metabolized properly.

So either get the cham outside weather permiting (though provide shade), or get a UVB bulb, like a Zoo Med 5.0 or 10.0. You can also get a Mercury Vapor, or Active UV bulb to provide heat and UVB lighting.

Also if you have questions about care, there are lot's of websites with care sheets explaining lighting, housing, watering, and feeding chameleons. Look some up as it's not fair to the chameleon or any other animal not to receive the proper care it needs.
