another tempermental ?

Justin Stricklin Jul 18, 2004 07:34 PM

Ok, there is a guy that said he would sale me a 10 foot albino burm female for $150. I can drive up there and he said he would meet me half way. Well, my question is is it possible to tame down a 10 footer? He said she is unpredictable and said it is about a 50/50 sort of deal with her aggression (following?). Well, I would realy like to hatch some albino babies next year and with all the care and stuff ( buying rats and enclosures to build, etc.) I can't save enough money for a good temperment albino female burm. I don't realy care if she is a bit pissy whiel in the cage and all, but when I get her out I would rather some what palcid. Has onyone ever had experience taming a 10' beuty? I have no problem just taming her down, but I don't want her to be the same at 15 feet or more to where she can kill me at one end and someone else at the other.lol. I'm sure I can tame her down because I would handle her a few times daily (excluding like after feeding and stuff like that. I will greatly appreciate any response. Oh, I have alot of vey aggressive colubrid experience. I know that is nothing like a big one, but i can usualy spot it when they have a bad attitude. I can judge body posture very well. I will of course never let the guard down and trust a snake. Well, except the littel guys like balls and stuff.

I have been working with an EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE 11 ft female for the past couple months. She is starting to calm down a little bit now, but I dont know that I would call her handleable yet. She has stopped striking everytime I open her cage door, and actually let me get her out last time to change her bedding without a single strike. Usually the strike count gets up around 10-15 serious ones everytime. I would suggest against working with her everyday, and go with just a couple times a week. If youve never handled a mean big one, the energy exertion on you and the snake is pretty great, and a tired snake is just gonna be madder.

I dont know how the one your looking at is unpredictable, but mine is quick to strike until you have a hold of her. Then once you get ahold of her, she mainly just tries to get away. And she will musk you, with tons of the stuff. I love this snake, but as far as it being one that I will ever handle in my house, its not. I dont know if she will ever be super tame. I hope so. But I dunno. I would definitely find out how aggressive and unpredictable she is before you buy her. I bought this one sight unseen, and im just a little disappointed. I drove to meet the guy, and he didnt say anything about her temperment until we got there. And by then it was a little late to say no. Sorry for the length. And good luck.

I got your e-mail. Thanx for the info. I will talk to him tomarrow about her and I will make my decision by tuesday. If she just goes nuts trying to bite you when you just open the cage i will not get her, because i do not think I need one like that and personaly don't want one like that. But if she just has those kinda days or is just flighty or something I will have to think about it.
