Insects in tank

sirfugu Jul 18, 2004 08:17 PM

ive had my pacman frog for about a week and the tank has been set up for about a month and just today i noticed some tiny larvae swimming in the water in my tank. i dont have a filter but i do have a pump that circulates water. ive had a fly or two in there but i didnt think much of it until now. i wouldnt know how to get them out anyway. anyone have any ideas about what it could be or how to get rid of them?

It might sound nasty, but I had mosquito larvae in one of my large fish tanks. The only way we could get rid of them, was to use this chemical we bought at a garden store that kills the larvae before they develop into adults. But I would not use that stuff with frogs though, since they're so sensitive to chemicals. I would completely change the water in the frog tank, and scrub the bowl (or tank) that held the water to kill off any eggs that may still be there. With a big 125-gal tank, this was not practical, but if the container is small, it'd be a snap. And you could avoid having mosquitos flying around your house in the dead of winter, which we had!
