Can anyone tell me the difference between the dumeril and the madagascar ground boa? Besides the price and the pattern? I guess what I'm looking for is the reason for the price difference?

First, they are two different species. Dumerils boas are more commonly kept and bred, while the Madagascar ground boas are less freqently seen in the trade and thus not bred as often. It's also my understanding that the Madagascar ground boas are more difficult to breed, but that is just what I've heard and I have not researched it. It essentially comes down to supply and demand. There is demand for both, but it's the Dumerils who are in ready supply...making the Madagascar ground boas more expensive. I'm sure there are other reasons as well, but this may help answer your question.

The ground boas are alot more diffucult to bred. Also they have smaller litters. Ive never breed them but to my understanding grounds will only have 4-6 to a litter. The babies are born alot larger then baby dumerils. Now as far as differances among the two species you have to have an eye for it however while their coloring is similar it differant. The grounds have differant shaped heads, more silver colored eyes, normally no patterns down their back. And they do get alot larger as adults some females reaching 10ft or so.
