Corn Snake Throat Swollen

jordan29 Jul 19, 2004 09:22 AM

Hello friends,

I have an Albino corn snake named Shysie, he is a darling.
Anyway, last night I noticed for the first time in his life, his throat was swollen....right behind his jaw it looked like he was puffing his throat.

I immediately went online last night to research and I came across some info about mouth rot. I'm no expert, but I don't think its mouth rot for two reasons:
1. his mouth is closed and he has no cheesey residue around it
2. the swelling dissappeared for a few hours then reappeared.

So I'm very confused. Could anyone please help me?
Otherwise he seems to be acting normal.

Thank you!
Jordan

Puffing out their throat can be a sign of an upper respiratory....they are trying to suck in more air. Sorta the step before open mouth breathing. I have taken in a snake with similar symptom and the vet heard a tiny lung crackle. Baytril cleared it right up. Otherwise the snake was fine. So, you may be able to chase it off with extra heat, but otherwise I would rather do an unnecessary vet check than take in a sicker animal in a week.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

thanks Sonya,
I've never actually taken my snake to a vet before, I'll have to find one in the area, shouldn't be hard, I live in nyc.
thanks again.
