Hatchling C. Vestigium 14 days old * FINALLY eats by himself :0) :0)

PHEve Jul 19, 2004 10:03 AM

Oh what a pleasant site this morning, at feeding time. As of yesterday he still was not interested, I opened his tiny mouth and put a cricket there and he gobbled it, then another.

So today I was curious as to what he would do. As soon as I threw the cricket in , he nailed it!

AH, a sigh of relieve, hes on his way to becoming a biggy !

....looks like its thinking about having yellow limbs already. Now the V's don't play the Giant Vent Pics game, right? I'm curious to see how long it takes which characteristic to tip off the gender.
Tail or collar? Heads or tails?
LOL

as some males of this species will have slightly enlarged postanal scales, while others do not. In some cases it has taken me as long as 3-4 months to get a positive ID on a hatchling/juvie C. vestigium. Yeah, the development of hemipene bulges in young males is one good indicator, along with the onset of dark pigmentation in the gular region. Tail/limb coloration tends to be less reliable early on, especially in this case since the female parent is actually more vibrant than the male...

Yeah, Don, your right, the GIANT VENT PICS dont work with these V's as soon anyway. Have to wait and see.

I'm really hoping, that male, or female, it will get some of Chia's nice yellow. A male would look awesome with such light limbs.

Have to see, I'm happy for the eating part for now,

30 more days and I will have a little brother or sister for this one. I'm counting, its been about 35 days for her other LONE egg, and looking good.

She is going to lay again, so this was a GOOD starting year!
