I've had my bp for about 3 days now. it's between 4-6 months old, and a ft long, give or take. Well, the first time i ever picked it up was yesterday as i was repositioning his heating pad. my step dad offered to hold it while i finished but when he reached for it, the snake struck at him? is it just because it hasnt been handled much yet or what?

also will it always do stuff like that or will become tamer with time?

thanks for ur continuing help )

I may be repeating things you have already read...

Three things to remember.

Have the proper temperature range from hot side to cool side.

Use 2 hides that fit the animal well. One on the cool side and one on the warm side.(Put the water bowl in the middle)

Time...It needs to trust you.So let it use its hides without interruption.Trust equals time passed without infractions

My first Ball python was also my first snake. She stressed me out along with her(it was 3 months before she ate for me)before i learned to just leave her alone.I think i actually "bored" her into eating. About 5 months after this she was a perfect pet.

Now yours may not be as bad...She might be worse.Since that time i have accumulated a few more.Three of which that took closer to 6 months (but i suspect they were in fact WC).

The way i see them is..First they learn to tolerate the cage, they eat, then they tolerate humans, then eat again.Tolerance is the best emotion you can hope to get from a snake anyway.IMO

wash your hands before handling her. If she smells another animal on you it could cause her to strike also.
