Dead Pacman!

obakeboi Jul 19, 2004 12:19 PM

I had a pacman frog for about 8 months. He was doing really well, was about the size of a golfball. I kept him in a plastic critter keeper and had a heat pad on the underside which kept him at about 80 degrees. I sprayed him everyday with dechlorinated water and also he had a water dish to bath in. I fed him crickets and meal worms which he always ate and seemed to be fine. One day i was looking at him and he seemed to be covered with a film that had hardened. He would croak if i poked him so i left him alone and continued to spray but he would not eat. It was as if his eyes could not open either because of the film covering him. I guessed he might have been hibernating or something so i left him alone and only sprayed, but today I go to look in on him, and he is DEAD! I am positive he is dead and not just hibernating now, he was fine yesterday what did i do wrong? Can anyone tell me what I might have done and how i can keep from doing it in the future? Any help would really be appreciated.

It sounds like you took very good care of your friend. The only thing I would have done differently is steered away from the meal worms because their exoskeleton can be difficult for the frogs to digest. I would suggest feeder fish, night crawlers, crickets, or wax worms dusted about once a week with calcium powder. Did you notice if he was still deficating because he may have become compacted. I'm not sure what went wrong but sorry to hear the sad news.
