Corns have some sharp teeth!

sullman Jul 19, 2004 08:33 PM

My 33 anery motley female just finished a shed this past week so I went out on Saturday like I always do to get some mice. Well the pet store only had live fuzzies so I got like 5 of em. Anyway I fed my cali king 2 and of course the little pig was a little made cause he wanted more..lol.. Anyway I put my corn in a 10 gallon I use for feeding and she hit the fuzzy so hard she nearly decapitated it! I never realized how sharp the teeth on a corn snake was! Anyway as I figured she grabbed and constricted the fuzzie but it was a little two small so she refused it. I just gave the other two to my king snake.

My king wont refuse anything ... he is big enough to eat two hoppers right now and even a small adult mouse..I went back to another pet store and got an adult mouse for her. I killed it myself like I always do to prevent bites. I don't prekill fuzzies because they can not inflict a bite on the snake.I just kill hoppers/adults. I dont buy frozen cause the one time I did the mouse stunk to high heaven after it defrosted. It also appeared to have missing fur and some rot on the side. All of em did! My wife complained and none of my snakes ate them and my king will eat anything. I took em all back to the pet store and they told me this is the way they come but gave me a refund. Now I know the mouse isn't suppose to be al rotten like..but my wife refuses to let me bring em in the house again. I'm lucky to own the snakes so I won't argue with her.

I feed frozen thawed and they don't smell at all. I think you got some bad ones. If you get pinkies...they should be pink. I once went to a shop to get some pinkies and they were black.I told the guy..shouldn't they be pink? So I didn't buy them.
Anyway, I don't like the idea of having to kill a prey item. I would much rather pull one out of the freezer and thaw it. As long as my snake will eat them this way then that is the way they get it. Even my python takes f/t rats no problem.
