female veiled not laying

strongbad121 Jul 19, 2004 08:49 PM

i have a one year old female who has not yet laid her eggs. they are infertile, and i was wondering how anyone who has females sets up their substrate for the female to lay in. right now i have a pot that is plenty wide and deep, but she just doesn't seem interested. i went to the vet today, and i was given a calcium supplement and also had x-rays of my female and saw that she had quite a few eggs. any information on how to help her lay her eggs and how to set up my substrate would be much appreciated.
thanks

Your veiled looks exaclally like mine. Very nice. Mine had a very sucessfull egg laying the first time.

My cham was climbing and scratching around the cage for a couple of weeks before she laid her eggs. I tried putting her in a large container of sand but she was just too unhappy. One day I then noticed her actually trying to dig at the bottom of the cage. I placed a small container of kids play sand in the cage and she immediatly started digging in the sand. I then placed a small (new) trashcan full of sand about 1' deep with a couple of limbs in it. Again she went right in, dug a deep hole, backed in and started to lay her eggs. The next day she was sitting on a branch and the eggs were covered up.

I ensured she had pleanty of water and food. She recoverd very nicely. I counted 43 eggs. 3 months later she started to scratch and dig again. I put the same trashcan in the cage and she seemed to have a sucessfull egg laying again but she still seemed a little out of it. It has been three weeks now and she still has some eggs in her. I am trying everything the vet and a couple of people on this site recommended.
