balls are nocturnal, so if you really want to see them moving around you would have to be away and watching from 2-6 in the morning, when i bet you're sleeping when they first get into a new cage i noticed that my two would move around alot, prolly checking out their new environment. but then after a few days of getting used to things, they just hang out in their hides all day. don't worry about them, the day time is their normal time to sleep. i only ever see mine out during the day if they are moving from the warm to the cold side or viceversa. also my girl is a killer eater and on feeding day, she has learned when it is, she comes out to roam her cage around early evening, that's when i normally feed them.

as for your ball going into shed, you will notice his color dulling and his eyes will get that blue/silverish look to them. i try to leave my snakes alone while they are shedding because it can be a stressful time for them.

hope i could help you out on this!
