Would western pine and fir bark from Home Depot be safe for my tegu's cage? The reason I am asking is because it is like $3 for 8 or 10 pounds and I am filling up a two-story 6Lx3Wx4H cage. Or do you guys have any other suggestions for substrate.

I use to use this . I stopped because it has a sent to it. Try orchid bark instead. It has been heat treated ,so it has less oils in it. Thanks Russ

stay away from any kind of conifers (pine, fir, cedar) they contain a chemical known as phenol, its bad news for reptiles period....
cyprus mulch is the stuff to get, it's cheap and they love it...best of luck

where did you buy your cypress mulch from? Can you buy it at a home depot?
It depends on where you live. Cypress is quite common in the eastern united states. In the western half, it's almost impossible to find. If you live in the west, like me, you can order it online from Pro Exotics.
i bought mine from Wal-Mart, $1.97 for a 2.0 Cubic foot bag, its about 30-40 lbs per bag...if you do live on the west coast and have trouble getting it, i would suggest having a local garden supply order it, because the markup is ridiculous from some suppliers online and the bags are smaller...good luck

The stuff from Petco and other petstores is rediculously overpriced in my opinion. WalMart is cool but the nearest one to me is a 45minute drive away. I check prices at K-Mart and Bi-Mart and the ones in my area. Way cheaper to get it that way and if you need to you can sterilize it in the over or something.
