Lost my rodent rack links (and 1/4" hardware cloth re-revisited)...

chris_harper2 Jul 20, 2004 12:42 AM

I had a bunch of rodent rack links saved but lost them when my place was hit by a flood last fall. I've done some searching on this and the archived forum and have only found Dwight Good's sight so far.

If anyone has any sights or posts bookmarked I'd really appreciate having them again.

I built several rodent racks about 10 years ago that are still running strong but I'd like to review some of the different links to see if there's another design I'd like to try.

Also curious if anyone has had any trouble with 1/4" hardware cloth for mice? I've read in the archives that many have had good success with 1/4" but I'm equally interested in hearing about the failures. I experimented with 1/4" way back when and found that mice ate better through 3/8". Of course I did not run that "experiment" very long and just went ahead and ordered a whole roll of 3/8". Perhaps with a bit of time they would have acclimated to eating through the 1/4".

Thanks in advance.

I don't have any links but I do have experience with the hardware cloth. I prefer the 1/2" cloth. The food I have doesn't fall through it and has huge openings for the mice to eat through. It seems to stand up better to corrosion as well.

1/4 works great for mice, if you use 1/2 you will lose babies
