White sided bull pics

gofer May 14, 2003 11:50 AM

Just thought i'd take a few pics of these guys while i had the camera out. They are getting huge, and look better with each shed. I would like to pick up some albino and hypo white sideds someday (aka ghost and snow bulls).
Have a good one,

I agree they get better looking as they grow. I love it when they turn real white on the sides and loose the pinkish tint. You're just trying to test the new forums and double post pics without getting gigged. LOL.

still don't have them both showing up on my pc...oh well, i'll just keep taking up more space with seperate posts for each pic...lol. I am guessing that i posted the second pic of the deppei deppei above twice too? I can't see it, so i'm hopign you can let me know, hahaha

That is a beautiful snake Gregg. Are those different than the salt & pepper bulls?

gofer May 15, 2003 02:41 PM

hopefully someone else can clear up the genetical difference for both of us. I would really like to know what genetics are involved to get salt/pepper bulls?

the genetics are getting hard to define because alot of the current bloodlines may be offshoot of the original ones and/or crosses to other genes. We also mix the terminology back and forth so it becomes even more difficult. John Cherry's explanantion in previous posts has been something like this. The original white sided bull appeared when Craig Trumbower was trying to produce a snow bull. Craig was breeding normals, anerythristic, and albino Texas bullsnakes. The white sided bullsnake appeared in the first clutch from this breeding. The Salt and Pepper color and pattern bullsnake also came from this same group that Craig was breeding. It came from a later breeding while still working towards a snow bull. The Salt and Pepper is actually from the same group breedings and is a step between the white sided and snow bulls development by Craig Trumbower. I hope this helps.

I really wasn't sure what the salt/pepper bulls consisted of genetically.

This white sided male has been working overtime this year. Del usually breeds him to two females. This year, Del took in 2 females on breeder loan for this guy. I hope he's the stud for four as he has been for two. My wife has a 2 year old male w/s from a clutch he fathered and a female hypo from a clutch he fathered last year. Each of the ones my wife has came from a different female parent.

There's several bloodlines involved with the w/s, hypo, amel strains that people have in their collection. It looks like your w/s and Del's w/s may trace back to the same strain. They may not be the same bloodline now duye to the original strain being outcrossed to othe bulls and a new strain or more having been developed unrelated to the original one.

Wow, great looking snake Terry, I hope to see you posting some baby pics from him this year! Thanks for posting that animal, very nice looking. My pair came from Don at South Mountain, where did he come from? I would like to eventually get another bloodline or breed mine out to strengthen the line.
