This would be my first lizard, though I'm experienced with amphibians and I took care of a friend's cornsnake for three months. Based on tameness, size (I'd like the smaller one) and matinence, which is better. I'm asking the skink people too.

well uh....where did u get this lizard? do you have a pic of it?? you can pretty much find a pic of every lizard imaginable on kingsnake so just compare if u cant get a pic to show us.... good luck!!
He is not confused on which lizard he has, he simply wishes for us to tell him which one would fit him better.
I would start with a bearded dragon. The generally get a little bit smaller then blue tongues, although both are pretty handleable. Dragons are a little easier to take care of in my opinion, and i would start with that.

so i see, thank you for setting me str8 there buddy.....hehe
Bearded dragon hands down. This is not a biased opinion, in that I have had several of both. In the blue tongue's i have delt with, most were eager to attempt to bite. Its just there too slow to get you unexpectedly. They seem to never really want to be handled, and hiss time to time. If you decide on the skink, go with the Iriayan Jaya, or Northern. Beardeds stay smaller, and are a lot more tame, and seem to like being held. Easier to care for, and plentiful on the markey, questions are easily answered for them in most cases. I like both animals, but for a begginner, a bearded in my opinion is your best choice. Good luck and investigate what your getting into. It is a committment!!
I have both and almost never had a BTS try to bite me or even gape at me in 2 years of caring for them. (the one time i did get bit was my fault). BDs can get quite an attitude too so be careful of anything with teeh. IMHO if you want a lizard that will interact with you, a BD is probably a better choice
