Normal feeding?

Quick question about feeding. From readin on the forums here, i have come to understand that the standard feeding responce from a ball is strike, coil, eat. After i got my first ball, with no info on his past, as he was a petco rescue, i tried his first feeding after a week. Tried a F/T mouse. He checked it out, and within 5 secs of dangling it in front of him, he struck, and swallowed it pretty quick. Today was the second feed. Was F/T mouse, maybe a little bit bigger, but it seemed wierd to me. I had decieded to feed in a seperate enclosure, so i took him out, put him in the 10 gal aquaruim, and grabbed the mouse. I dangled it for about 10-15 min with him in the cage, carefull not to actually bug him with it. He seemed much more intent on checking things out, and showed no interest. Right when i was about to give, he stuck his head right up to the mouse, almost like a head butt, and then super slowly opened his mouth, and started eating it. It seemed super wierd to me, as he didnt strike in the least, didnt coil, hardly even moved.

I guess the question is, do balls that are used to eating F/T, or stuff that they know is dead, not strike and take there time eating? He seemed super calm about eating and it almost caught me off guard.

Sometimes they don't strike and constrict when they are used to eating frozen/thawed. Count your blessings that your snake has such a great feeding response.

Mine does that also. Sometimes she strikes and sometimes she just eats it. It's kinda weird the first time huh. It's funny, I had the same response- What's wrong!? I think we all need to take a breather. They are animals and will be unpredictable sometimes.

My cornsnakes do this as well, but my BPs don't. I guess that could be because I personally switched them from live to frozen, but the corns have had frozen since birth.
