Escape attempt failed

I have 1/2" wire mesh covering the openings for my 2 lights and 1 heat emitter so Moses can't touch the bulbs. When I designed the hoods (3/4" plywood) it was hard to get into them with a staple gun to fasten the screen so I only used maybe 3 staples to hold each section in. I noticed my snake pushing with his nose and thought, na! Yesterday I saw him pushing REAL hard with the tip of his nose and the screen giving little. Woah! Of course I took him out, disassembled the hoods and stapled all the way around each cutout, about 50 each. He never pushed out any staples and was a long way from making a big enough hole but man! I figured if they could get their body into something they could flex and spread it apart. I never thought he would push from the ground with his nose such as we would upward with our arm. All in a days adventure.

I had a male burm, that if you brought the food in the house before he you were feeding him, He would wedge his entire body between the wood and the screen around the top, yes I was stupid and had some screening on top, and then flex to tear it apart. I only made that mistake once.

Why not frame around the edge of the hardware wire? Use maybe 1" poplar, make a frame, and screw through.
I can guarantee that doing it that way, nobody can escape.
Just a thought, then again I always like to overbuild everything.
That is why I am going t plastics. I dont want to build a cage for $1000!
I know how my projects run.

That's an awsome idea. I can't believe I didn't think of it when I disassembled the hoods. I have them back together now and litterally have at least 50 wood staples around the edge. I tried pushing on it myself and it would not budge. I will add it to the new cage. Check it out in the cage photo gallery
