My first clutch of the season is 71 days into incubation. I have kept them at about between 78 and 80. They were laid May 10th. Should I be worried about them yet, or not? Thanks

Last year, after incubating my clutches at about 82-84 degrees and getting hatchlings in about 57-60 days, I decided to try the room-temperature method this year. My hatchlings were all really small last year, so I thought incubating them longer this year might help. Anyway, I thought I would go NUTS waiting for my first clutch this year to hatch. Temps ranged from the mid-70s in late May to the mid-80s in June and July, with temps dropping somewhat at night. Finally, last week, my first clutch started hatching right at 73 days. I don't know if the longer incubation time actually made any difference, but the hatchlings are much larger than last year's babies. I'm now anxiously waiting -- at day 68 -- for my second clutch to hatch, but now at least I know that they WILL eventually hatch, as long as the eggs are still good.
Don't despair -- they'll hatch whenever they're good and ready to!
Liz
