Question about cage set up,...

thesnakeman Jul 20, 2004 12:50 PM

I am about to get into ATBs. So I am currently doing the research on enclosures. I have read Greg Maxwell's book, "The Ultimate Chondro". It provides some very good insight on green trees. I was wondering how husbandry for ATBs, and GTPs would be similar.

In his book, he describes having set ups with long cage, and a lateral thermal gradient, rather than the tall cage with a vertical thermal gradient. I have a wild caught Black Rat Snake, largely arborial, who seems to love the lateral method in his cage. I am wondering if anyone out there has built a long enclosure with a hot spot at one end for their ATBs? And if so does it seem to work better for the animals than the tall cage with the hot spot at the top? Thanks,
Tony.

Amazons are a little more forgiving in thier husbandry needs than GTP's. They don't need as high of a peek in humidity and thier temps should be a little lower 82-84 Day Time High and
75-78 for Night Time Low. I think Greg Maxwell's set up would work very well for Ammies. I recommend Corallus.com for good husbandry info. Good Luck! -Phil
