i just recently had a problem with mites a couple of months ago; what i did to get rid of them was i got any kind of sticky paper to place my cultures on that i could find. i didn't move them to a different place or anything so i wouldn't spread the mites everywhere. then i got packing tape and placed it around my cultures nice and tight, sticky side out, this way what ever mites where out crawling around the culture container would stick to the tape. I stuck with this for about a month or so and eventually they all disappeared.
As for them doing anything to the frogs all they did was provide another food source for them.
hope this helps )

something I would not want to increase in productivity. Mites are difficult to get rid of once you have them, and from what I read about them, chemical treatment is your best avenue of approach in getting rid of them or at least controlling their population. Lamont
