Can someone please ID

Found this snake basking on the road in Brennan State Park (NJ) this AM...approx 36 inches long...someone suggested Northern Pine Snake..but was unsure.

Appreciate a definitive answer...THANKS

THank you for the timely ID. Since it is a NJ Threatened species I reported the sighting to the appropriate person in Trenton.

Definately a Northern Pine. They are becoming VERY rare in NJ. To many collectors going into the Pine Barrens. They have found snake traps and all from two bit reptile dealers in the Barrens.

i live in new jersey. in this state all herps are considered protected and it is illegal to touch any herp except common snapping turtles and american bullfrogs during there hunting season and you have a fishing lisence.
