is my kingsnake sick

sandfireman Jul 20, 2004 02:27 PM

hey all, I have a california kingsnake that is about 2 and half years old and is about 3 foot long. For about the last 4 times i have fed him ( live mouse ) he has puked them up. I fed him, then the next day i see the bulge in his stomach, then about the next 2 days or so i find about two poops that he does. After about the fourth day after feeding i usuallly smell something horrid in the room and sure enough its his thrown up meal. The mouse has no fur and is realy shriveled up obvisouly ben threw the snakes digestive sytem. He is lookin on the thin side but still healthy and is in shed right now. The warm side of his cage is about 80 and the cool side is about 72. At night i dont use any heating for him and the temperature goes down to about 70 maybe 72 on a warm night. Why is he throwing up his meals? thanks for the help.

Sounds like he may have some kind of blockage? The temps are ok, so other than that all I can think of is possibly parasites, or are you handling him excessively before he can fully digest his meals? Might wanna get a vet involved if he does it again.
Best of luck

If the snake keeps throwing up it's meals it's time to see a vet. Thats the ONLY way you will know whats wrong with it. Do you feed the snake in it's tank with its subtrate? Could have swallowed some and have a blockage like the post above me said. Could have some sort of internal parasite also. Only way to ensure the safety of the snake is a check up/fecal sample.
