Leopard gecko genetics explained!

ReptileEvolution Jul 20, 2004 03:50 PM

This is a very cool article that explains how leopard gecko genetics works! It's really worth the time it takes to read. When you're finished with this article you will have a much greater understanding of Leo genetics.

that was pretty good in an abstract sense. My ?s are more about what a double het would look like. For example, a gecko is het for both jungle and albino. Would it look normal? how bout if it was homo for both traits. Would it look like an albino, or would the jungle take precedence, or would it have both qualities? how about snow and albino? and what is a blizzard? is that trait carried on only one gene, or is a blizzard a paternless and something else combined?

If a gecko was heterozygous (het) for any amount of traits it would still look normal (assuming all the traits were recessive.)

If a gecko was homozygous recessive for two completely different traits then they could both be displayed(gaint patternless), but sometimes similar ones won't(the three albino types).

I don't know enough to answer any of your other questions though. I'm not very knowledgeable on leopard gecko traits...yet!

This site can tell you about some particular traits.
