Size of cage vs size of vield

gabrielmtl May 14, 2003 11:54 AM

I guys,

3 months ago I bought 2 captive bred baby vields. They are both doing great and are growing like crazy(5" wiht tail aprox.), eating like pigs. They are seperated and currently are in big aquariums each (i suck with gallons) But its time to put them in their new homes. The 2 cages I am working on are 48" high, 27" deep and 27" long each. I know this will be big enought (right?) but I was wondering if maybe it was too big... I feed them 1/4 crix and I am afraid that they wont find their food... also the small crix will be able to go tru the screen...

any suggestions?

Gabriel-

The screen cages you built are fine for an adult veiled chameleon. Since they are small and will be going into a large cage, it will be harder for them to hunt food down, and if the crickets can got throught the screen then that is anothre problem. You should try to get them to cup feed, this way you will b able to keep the crickets in the cage, and the chameleons will be able to eat! What size screen did you use? You also can put the fine aluminum insect screen over the larger screen to keep the cricket in! Hope this helps!

thank you for your answer.

I did think of cup feeding, and I will try it tonight. The only problem with that is that i LOVE to watch them hunt down crix... it's too much fun and they don't care if I am around. But I don't think i have a choice.

I did not decide on the size of the screen yet... I am scared that 1/8 is too small and that 1/4 is too big.... ahhhh life The last step of the cage will be screen, so I have time to think about.

thanks again,
