Large Snake, Stealth Photo

Mark Damico Jul 20, 2004 05:45 PM

I took this girl out to clean her cage. She's about 7 and 1/2 feet and about 25 pounds I would estimate. I placed her out in the grass while cleaning her cage and she was on her way to disappearing on me. About 1/3 of her body was already buried beneath the grass and grass roots. I had a bit of a time getting from underneath all of it.

It's easy to see how these animals could almost disappear in a rain forest setting making them difficult to find and difficult for prey to see.

Thought it was interesting to see how such a large snake could hide itself. She produced a small litter for me in 2003. She's had 2004 off and I look forward to trying her again this upcoming season.
