Caught a very unusual green anole!!

SouthFLBoa Jul 20, 2004 06:54 PM

I caught a green anole today that had two perfectly developed tails. I have it with me now and am going to barrow a friends d-camera so I could post the picture of it. It looks very unusual, I have never heard of a lizard having two tails? I don't know what do do with it, how much is it $$worth$$? If it's not worth much should I let it go?
Thanks in advance

First off, its just a birth defect. Could be caused by to high of tempetures at development. But even if its worth alot you should let it go. Shouldnt take animals from their home, even if its your backyard.

well the two tails just mean, that it;s tail had been cut or bit off in the past and just grew back that way. i no this because, my anoles tail got bitten off and i was told that it might grow back like that. i would probably let it go. it wouldn't probably live along time now too because it's a rapid change for him. and,
your welcome

Some zoos pay a lot of money for oddities like that, but that doesn't mean that its right. Making something special of a green anole or any other species that is deformed takes public interest away from the normal ones. And its not like a lizard with two tails is at any advantage. Wild-caught green anoles can be kept as pets if care is taken to be sure they are healthy, but a lizard with two tails shouldn't be treated any different than a normal one.
