I'm not sure by what you meant by the pine beeing inside the cage but the ig could get in contact with it if he were to just go to the bottom of his cage..the frame of the cage and floor will be made of pine...do i still need to use something? I'll have newspaper covering the floor but all four corners will have the pine studs.

If this pine will be the floor of the cage that's a whole different situation. An Iguana will scratch the heck out of either a water-based poly or acrylic-latex paint.

With that information I'd recommend Fiberglass Reinforced Panel. Also known as FRP board.

an alternative to polyurethane/paint would be a glaze coat. It's literally a crystal clear 2 part epoxy. if you go to a resturaunt with a bar like TGI Friday's you'll notice a very thick protective film over it. That's what this is. You mix it and pour it on, spreading it with a paintbrush. I have this on a poker table in my apartment and my friends sometimes get drunk and have beat the hell out of my table and havent phased it yet lol. you can get it at home depot for $19.97.

You'll still need to seal the floor. You should look into the Glaze product mentioned in the previous thread. I'm not familiar with it but it sounds nice and affordable.

But FRP board would still be an easy/safe/cheap choice.
