Where to find baby panther chameleons

voidix Jul 20, 2004 08:31 PM

I am very interested in purchasing a chameleon, however, I don't really like the look of the Veild Chameleon, which seems to be the only plentiful species in my city's pet shops. I have been looking at the many chameleon types, and I must say I favor the panthers. I don’t just want a chameleon that looks cool though, I want a it to be mine and so I want to raise it from a baby. This is where I run into my problem, I just can't seem to find anywhere that has baby panther chameleons, Does anyone know where I can find some? I am hoping there might be a website somewhere, or another popular classified section. Thanks for your help!

The problem with finding a baby panther is that breeders can't tell the sex right away like you can with veileds. Veileds can be sexed right out of the egg because of small tarsal spurs on the males' hind feet, not so with Panthers. So most breeders hold on to their babies until they are about 4 to 8 months old. By this time the males have begun to show some color, their rostrums are beginning to grow and they are looking a lot different than the females. They are also worth more than they would be as an unsexed 1 month old. I don't know if everybody has this problem, but in general, the Veileds are also about three times the sizes of the Panthers when they hatch out so it just makes sense to keep the Panthers longer before selling them.

Did you look in the classified section under Kingsnake.com? Also check out www.Calumma.com , screameleons.com , or you can email Chris Caeta. Chris is a guy I bought one from. He's a little bit cheaper than the others and his animals are really heatlhy. His Kingsnake classified link is http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=52&de=233613

Hope this helps!!!

Along with the others suggested I'd like to suggest chameleonparadise.com They had been very helpful answering my questions a few weeks ago when I was looking for a panther and they have very pretty chameleons!
