Fat-Tail MIRACLE!!!

herpeguitarogist Jul 20, 2004 08:50 PM

Ok ok...so I know that this is the Leo gecko forum, but since the fat-tails are alot like leos, and since more people read this forum, I figured I'd post it here...

My Miracle...
A couple of hours ago, I was playing with my four week old fat-tail. He hasn't opened his eyes, and I figured that was a problem. So I set up an appointment with my vet for Friday, but decided to try a little vet medicine myself (I'm a vet tech...but our vet doesn't do exotics). I took the end of a needle (not the pointed end, but they eye-hole end) and gently separated the two eyelids. I was devastated to find a white-ish membrane in place of the eyeball. Nearly in tears, I called the breeder who sold me the gecko, and his wife took my message, and was as heart-broken as I was. She left the message for her husband, and I returned to my gecko. Figuring that the membrane in the eyesocket could cause infection, I decided to take it out. After a few minutes of watching him, he blinked...and there was his eye!!! Bright as day (well...as bright as Fat-Tails eyeballs can get). I was so excited!! So I said to myself, "Let's try the other eye." And sure enough it did the same thing!!! It was so exciting knowing that I was the first thing that the gecko had ever seen in his whole entire life. I called the breeder back...and he still wants to talk to me about it. And I'm probably still gonna go to the vet on friday. But...just think, I was going to have to force feed that little guy until he died of old age...and I gave him SIGHT!!! I'm on top of the world...my first true rescue...and what could be greater!!!

I just thought that I would share that little bit of joy that I experienced with all of you. Never give up on your pets...they can make your day!
