Thinkin about getting a Cobra!

rattlerman Jun 22, 2003 12:30 AM

I have been keeing hots for quite some time now. However i have never kept any elapidae except for a coral snake. I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions or if you could give me husbandry tips that could help me make up my mind in getting one. I already have the propper permits to keep one, im just not shure of the husbandry requirements. Thanks for any help

Hi , if you get a cobra make sure you keep the cage basic as they are the messiest snakes I have ever kept, they are much faster but much more interesting as they are active , I have kouthia, nivea, haje, mosambica, melanculeus, and ophiophagus coming, personally I have found monacleds the best first time cobra, the great thing about cobras is hide boxes work well, I would go and get some practise with a experienced elapid keeper, so you can practise hook and tailing, you might have to handle it at some point. email if you want any more help, pete@bigsnakes.co.uk, i am in the uk
