I am a new tortoise owner, but I will share what I know. Sulcatta-I have heard are easy to take care of, but get really, really big and people end up getting rid of them when they are older.
I have heard that Red Foots or Yellow foots are good tortoises, but don't know much about them.

Star Tortoises are absolutely beautiful, but expensive.

I purchased a Leopard Tortoise about 2 months ago and everything seems to be going great. They are very easy going and so far very easy to take care of. I think they are beautiful but not to pricey. I have him/her in a 75 gallon tank with Cedar Mulch as the substance and feed him a variety of Spring Mix lettuce, dandelions, and grasses. All are easily accessible. He also gets soaked once a day for about 10 minutes. He is so cute and is already taking food from my hand.

I wish I could be more of service, but I don't know a lot about other tortoises. There are some very knowledgable people on this forum and hopefully can help you out better than I can! Good Luck
