Humidity for incubation

slbutler3 Jul 21, 2004 01:16 AM

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when I pulled the water dish out of my females tank and found 6 eggs underneath! I have only had her for about a month, so she must have been gravid when I got her. She must have layed them early Monday morning, only a couple of them had dimpled , and those it was just a tiny bit.

So the day was spent running around getting what I needed, and now they are resting at a steady 82 degrees. I have been reading a lot about eggs and incubation, and the thing I can't find is what the humidity should be. I have it pretty high right now, around 75-80%, is that OK? Any other tips or tricks specific to hognose eggs?

Well, wish me luck! I had no idea I would be this nervous, I swear I check on those eggs every half hour...

They are western hognose eggs...I forgot to put that in.

Stephanie,
If I'm not mistaken... The general rule of thumb is 100% humidity for colubrid eggs. I don't think it has to be that high for hognose but that's what I've got mine at with vermiculite that's just barely moist.
82 should be fine, mine are at about 85.
I was told that basically you can put the eggs in a container in a warm room and forget about them and they'll hatch fine, but I like to go the extra step. Good luck!

Ok, Thanks! I adjusted the temp/humidity a little, now I will just keep my fingers crossed...
