Gecko Won't Open It's Eyes

OhioGeckos Jul 21, 2004 02:24 AM

My leopard hatched about 10 days ago. It shed on the 3rd day, at a couple of crickets. The next day I fed it, it was goin for the crickets but couldn't catch any and got stressed. The next day it was walking around with one eye open and couldn't catch any food and got stressed. The next day it wouldn't open either of it's eyes. I dropped some water on it's head thinking it was dehydrated. It opened it's eyes a little bit, but by the end of the night they were closed again. I haven't been able to get it to feed since it can't see.

Is your baby albino? Maybe he's just sensitive to light? I've noticed that my albinos and even some of my "clumsy" leos have better aim when I turn off the lights to let them hunt. That way, they don't have any glass reflections distracting them.

Is the baby having any shedding problems? Anything stuck inside the eyes?

In the meantime, offer your baby some small-medium mealworms in a shallow dish. These are perfectly safe to feed your baby as long as they are not the full-grown inch long mealworms.
