Moving...help please

Sarah Miller Jul 21, 2004 05:21 AM

Hello,
I am about to move around five states away, and I need help with ideas on how to safely transport my three bearded dragons. Shipping them to my new residence is completely out of the question because of the price. Any help at all would be appreciated, I will have a full day's drive ahead of me.
Thanks.

on if you are moving accross states like Texas that can take over a day to drive through.

I would say get some pet carriers (about $15 ea)for them and let them rotate at riding shotgun. Mine love to look out the window when I drive, They sit up on the dash sometimes holding the steering wheel. If they will take food from your hand thenm you can give them collard or dandilion... as snacks along the way. otherwise just put some greens in their carrier. Stop and have a family picinic. Just make sure you keep them hydrated and I don't think you will have a problem.

some lizards like cars more than others

In all honesty, the cost to ship it should not be a problem. For it's only a fraction of the cost that you would need to take them to a veterinarian if they were sick. However, a day in the car shouldn't hurt. Make sure the car does not get too hot nor too cold. Keep them in a box, enough room to move, and be sure they are hydrated. The best person to ask is any mailorder house, for they can give you exact precautions to prevent any accidents. Good Luck
