Wierd walking baby?

Aesear Jun 22, 2003 01:26 AM

ok so I have a beautiful baby who is about 3 weeks old but in the past couple of days she's been walking funny. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it- its kind of a waddling dragging crawl with her legs spread out to the sides instead of underneath her. is something wrong with her? If so what should I do? thanks guys!

I took her out to look at her and it was as if her limbs were made of rubber. when she tried to walk they bent backwards and seemed essentially boneless. she seems to be much worse than she looked this morning. at least then she could sort of waddle walk. now its...pitiful. her legs just don't seem to work. It made me want to cry just looking at the poor thing. I'm wondering if it might be metabolic bone disease but its happening so fast! she was walking "funny" this morning. now she's not really walking at all. I'm getting pretty scared. please help.

It does sound like MBS. Is she still able to eat? If it is happening this fast, then maybe there was a calcium deficency in the mother and the little one was low to begin with. If this were my little gecko I'd get a hold of a herp vet asap and get a perscription liquid calcium supplement. Good Luck!!

That little one needs calcium.

Are you leaving a dish of calcium in there at all times? Are you dusting her meals?

I had a little one do this even with the dish and dusted food...but that's pretty rare.

If she's still eating on her own this may be easier to fix. If not I would definetly bring her to a vet and see if Calcium shots are available.

Get some calcium powder and mix it with a bit of water making sure that it's not too liquidly, but enough to get in an eyedropper or syringe. And then twice a day drop it on her nose and have her lick it up. If she doesn't lick it right up, you'll have to force feed her the mix. And be sure to keep doing this even a few days after she looks back to normal.

But once again...If she's not eating on her own DEFINETLY go check out the vet.

If you're lucky, she'll be fine and have no noticable long term effects. My little girl just has a somewhat deformed wrist from her experience. But that doesn't stop her from being a pig.

She's really lethargic and can hardly walk so I doubt she's going to be able to catch prey. I've been giving her dusted mealies and sprinkling calcium dust on the paper towels. Today I bought that Calcimitize stuff to put in their water. Since its sunday I can't get her in to a vet without incurring a $95 emergency charge so I'm going to take her in tomorrow. we are pretty deficient in herp vets in my area (I live in a TINY town in colorado) but I'm hoping I can get her on the shots or suppliment or something. I love this little girl (she's the first baby I've ever hatched) and its killing me to see her like this. I can't believe its happening so fast! yesterday she was perfectly fine and today her legs are made of rubber. her clutchmate who is a day younger is showing just the faint beginnings of walking funny so I think I'll try to get her on it too. the younger pair who are about a week old seem fine but I'm worried they're going to come down with it too. Thanks for all the advice and support guys. I truly appriciate it.
