Legless Lizard Help

randyg1999 Jun 22, 2003 02:19 AM

I was recently given a glass lizard and 7 eggs, I couldn't find any info on the net so just took a guess at the temp and put them in my garage which stays apx 80-85. The eggs hatched a little pre-mature so I put them in pill bottles to simulate another egg, and they are turning out nicely but now that I have newly hatched Glass Lizards what do they eat besides "REALLY" small insects. The mother takes to meals worms but they are way too big for the babies. Any idea would be helpful.....Thanks

Very inventive solution. i too have been combing the net for info on legless lizards, and, apart from slowworms, etc, there's nothing. as far as feeding goes, i would stick to crickets mainly, but try flightless fritflies if you need to switch things up. you also might try offering peices of waxworm from tongs/tweezers to fatten them up.
you didn't mention what species you have. if they are Ophisaurus ventralis, eastern glass lizard, i'd love to hear from you as soon as the babies are of an age at which you'd be willing to part with them.

well ive only kept the species Ophisaurus attenatus or the lender glass lizards Ive heard a good method of feeding baby lizards is to go to a pesticide free area and get a bunch of tiny non poisoness insects for them.this just provides a variety in diet.also I was wondering the same thing as eastlendpets about if you are eventually going to sell these lizards.if so Id be interestd in obtaining a baby when your ready and if you do sell them.hope this helps

i really have no idea, but let me know when they hatch. i would try incubating them at a slightly lower temperature than on the original post. good luck.
