Eye skin

Wow, I just went to go check on my Dumerils Boa. She was in the process of shedding when I last saw her last night. Well, she finished shedding and there is skin hanging from both her eyes. I gently pulled at it to see if it was just stuck there, but it won't come off. I've had Matilda since she was 12". She is now 6 ft plus. I've never had this problem with any of my snakes before. The humidity hasn't changed.... I don't know what to attribute it to. I now have her in a very humid box hoping the skin will just fall off. But, I don't think that is too likely. What can I put on her eyes to help with the moistening? Do I then pull it off carefully with a tweezer? Please point me in the right direction. I am an experienced snake keeper, so nothing will suprise me. Thanks sop much in advance for your help!

Dan

I would not suggest pulling it off...

I would suggest a little bit of mineral oil on your fingers and rubbing the eyes..

continue to rub the skin off...if it doesn't come off within a couple of minutes... just leave it on and it will come off. Mineral oil is very safe and I use it when situations like these arise.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the excellent advice to use mineral oil. After a good long soaking in combination with mineral oil, the eyecaps just rubbed off. I'm so happy this worked!!! It also relieved much stress on both the snake and myself. As you keepers know, stressing out isn't hard to do with a reptile.

Peace, Dan
