is vermiculite safe for a coperhead enclosure?

would it be ok to put vermiculite in my copperhead cage as a substrate? right now i have potting soil but i like the look of vermiculite better.is it ok to have this? is it ok to feed on this? the tank currently houses 1 baby southern copper who has just had its first shed..thanks

Why bother with using such a messy substrate? It's litterally dirt. Especially vermiculite. The little flakes will stick all over him and really take away from his looks. They could also stick to what he's eating. There's just no need to use it. I keep my copperheads on newspaper and it has always worked just fine.
