A few questions for the W. Hognose breeders out there....

snakecharmed Jun 22, 2003 05:14 AM

Yesterday my W. hognose laid a clutch of eggs. She did breed with a male about 5 weeks before laying, so I would think that they are fertile, but I candled them not long after she laid and I can't see any vains. Are the veins visible right after laying or does it take a few days to be able to see them? She laid 9 that look really good except for the fact that I don't see veins, she also laid about 3 yellowish and one green. If anybody has any info it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Christy

I rarely candle eggs, so I don't know how quickly the vessels become visible.

I would set the eggs up properly and then watch over time. Good eggs hatch as long as you treat them with a modicum of care.

I usually candle my eggs 24 to 48 hours later. Some eggs are hard to see veins in the beginning. I would give it a couple of days and try again.

Thanks to those who replied. I checked them again earlier and I can definitely see veins in 2 of them so I'm pretty excited. Thanks, Christy
