More tribbie pics

iwana Jul 21, 2004 06:30 PM

Hi everyone,

This is to follow up on my earlier posts. Looks like Mom is getting ready to lay more eggs, 'cause she is looking VERY fat. Junior still hasn't figured out food. Will try the chopped earthworms. Thanks for the advice!

We've been keeping this pair together for a year and a half and I've never seen any evidence of fighting. Every now and then, I'd see the female do some sort of shudder-bob with her head sometimes when she saw the male; I'm guessing that's tribbie language for "leave me alone" and her mate has seemingly complied like a gentleman. We also have two hides in their enclosure and they will often move from one to the other. Sometimes they're together, sometimes in separate hides. Maybe that's why they don't fight. They each have a place to go for a time out. Every couple needs those, right?

Anyway, hope you enjoy these pics. I took one of the female from above so you can see how fat she is, and one of her next to junior, to compare adult and baby size.

Im worried with him! Soo skinny!!My Salamanders like to eat blood worms and insect larvae.Perhaps Junior will like these too? I dont like to give my babies earthworms. Most have parasites that can cause diarrhea.

Hi Flavia,

I can't really tell if he's eating or not. I tried cut up earth worms last night and also found a small garden slug. I think he ate it, but because everything was dried up by the next day, I couldn't tell what was bits of worm or dried slug. LOL I haven't seen any evidence of poop, though.

I've also been trying tiny mealworms. I know he hasn't been eating those, because I always find the same number the next day. I've also been providing vegetable baby food with some crested gecko diet powder mixed in (it has lots of protein and vitamins) alongside the mealworms, so that the mealworms would have something to eat and also to see if junior would like the food mix. It seems to have been disturbed, so I wonder if he ate some. The worms are still there, though. :-P

I've got some pinhead crickets on the way, they are supposed to arrive today. Will try those next. Stay tuned!

I'd stay away from slugs, they're not good for things that aren't specifcally used to eating them. You also don't know if they've been eating slug poison. I'd try superworms if you can get them, my guy loves those. I always used whole earthworms, he likes those too. And crickets.

Superworms always look like they are going to EAT the skinks, rather than the other way around... I suppose that, chopped up, that wouldn't make a difference...

Even my girl Leo Gecko is afraid of superworms.A few weeks ago i put one in her cage and she preferred to keep it as a personal pet than to try to eat it!lol!
