Check Out My New Clasroom Pet!

reptilicus81 Jul 21, 2004 07:26 PM

This is my brand spankin new albino california kingsnake! She is eating and enjoying her new quarters! Anyways two questions for you guys:
1.) The guy at the store says it looks like a lavender albino but it isn't because of it's eyes? I have only had balls myself, but a lavender albino would still have the same color eyes wouldn't it?
2.) How are these guys with being handled? This one will be a classroom pet, and I have had great luck with balls, but sometimes the kids do better with smaller snakes at first. Are they nippy? We have a mex. black king who is always after my hands, or shirt, or face...what ever is closest to his mouth lol! So I was hoping this new guy would be a bit friendlier!
Thanks in Advance!

Looks like an aberrant albino. From the picture it does not look like a Lavender.

Very pretty baby! I once had a lavender albino calking--his white had a purplish cast, as did his red eyes in certain light. The contrast was most pronounced when compared to his regular albino mate.

My classroom snake is a mexi black kingsnake. Unlike yours, Inkus is the friendliest, most curious kingsnake I've ever encountered. When the kids approach his enclosure, instead of hiding, he'll slither over to check them out. He also has no problem devouring his f/t meals in a transparent feeding box, nor deficating in front of a crowd. Inkus has inspired some very interesting conversations. (lol)

If your baby is calm now, just keep on with consistent, gentle handling. Much depends upon the temperament of the animal, and you'll know soon enough whether or not this one will stress out in a classroom situation. Best of luck to you both, and be sure to keep those cage clips on!
regards,
althea
