Spider pricing????

dumje Jul 21, 2004 07:29 PM

Anybody out there think they are a little overpriced right now?

I mean every other add has spiders for sale...I think the price tag of 10 to 15 K is a little high.

I think between 5 and 10 K is a little more real...for the supply of a dominat trait.

Thats what i mean...I believe people will pay the 5 to 10 K range. But I saw somebody still asking $15,000 for one...that is nuts...no way that happens...I just don't think with as many as there out there right now the price will stay that high or anyobdy will pay it.

by the way...to the other guy...I never said I was going to buy it...especially at that price...I don't thibk it is worth it at this point.

The cinammons have the value to them

The Plattys have the value to them

Pinstripe...genetic stripe...

just too many spiders out there for sale.

He is seeing lots of spiders for sale from a lot of sources. Sounds like a big picture to me. Of course the going price at some point in the future or even now for that matter is anyone’s guess.

Care to elaborate on how you see the big picture?

I don't breed or work with BPs, but I have clients and friends who are, so I try to keep up with the business side of it. That said, I have no reason to be biased and I think your question is a good one. Your question is also different than the average Joe who doesn't understand the market and only wants to [bleep] and moan about the prices of all Ball Pythons. Unfortunately, some of the users here don't have the intellectual capacity to differentiate between the two.

Male Spiders can be had for $12.5K cash, if not less. If you're trading, forget it, but if you have cash money, there aren't too many breeders that will tell you no. Nobody will post ad to that effect, though, because they're afraid they'll be accused of "crashing" the market. You say "Who cares what anyone else thinks?" Well, it's not that anyone cares what these "big name breeders" think of them, but they don't want the reputation of being the guy to "crash the market" because they will end up being snubbed later when they want to buy the next big morph. If a breeder thinks that a person is likely to sell a new morph cheap and drive market prices down, they simply won't sell the snake to them. I'll leave the names out, but I've heard of this happening several times when certain breeders wanted to buy high dollar (mid to high five digit range) morphs and the breeder who had them said "Sorry...don't have anything for you right now."

Supply and demand usually dictates all, but not always with Ball Pythons.

The moral of the story is this. You can buy them for less than market value, but only behind closed doors.

I was just looking for feedback on my thoughts. Most of the high priced morphs you do not see much of adverised on Kingsnake. Always Pastels and Albinos...Pieds there are quite a few...then a bunch of spider adds...not much of the other stuff...hence they cannot be that common. Then again...how many Spiders can there be out there?

Afterall these are Ball Pyhtons...unless people are breeding them to like 10 females in 1 shot...I predict 1 of 2 things...The SPiders will stop showing up and that means people are still buying at higher prices and there are not many out there...or

They will continue to be there and After the Daytona Show the price will drop.

15 grand is just so last year..... You can easily find cheaper deals if you shop around. I happen to agree that spiders are overpriced right now. I know of people that are sitting on literally hundereds of them but are not advertising a great deal but will cut a very favorable rate under the table... personally I see nothing wrong with this. I know that I'll probably have lots of people wanting to burn me as a heretic, (so what else is new) But I think that a big drop in spider prices would actually be good for the ball market as a whole...... After all, what good is a market that doesn't bring in new investors????? It's a stagnant market that will eventually die due to the lack of new blood and new money..... New investors are not going to be the people that spend 25-50 grand on a morph, they are going to be the people that get their feet wet on a moderate priced 3-5 grand animal. As Kevin has proven again and again, the spider mixes and matches well with just about anything...... It's become kind of a 'gateway morph' for designer snakes..... How many people have bragged that they were able to raise their spiders up to breeding size in less then a year???? Thats a pretty fast turn around for ANY snake..... It will eventually be almost required in any ball breeders collection. A new investor to the morph market would be wise to start out with one of these..... BUT, they have to be able to afford the first one....... That is why I'm hoping that they drop in price real fast. Lets face it, no one is going to lose money on these. Even at 15 grand you could break even in 2-3 years even if they went to a thousand bucks a piece. The only reason I can see for denying this is that people are scared of their investment and want to make their money back as fast as possible....... again... I hope the price drops like a rock........ They are a very cool looking morph and easy to get up to breeding size quickly. The sooner they fall to a reasonable level, the sooner we'll be able to get fresh investors into this market that will have success with the spider balls and then will be willing (after a few years) to start putting real money down on some of the pricier morphs....

Just my opinion.......
