Odd hatchling #2 (same appearance)

Kat Jul 21, 2004 07:53 PM

This time I got a decent comparison photo with an amel in it. The odd hatchling (second one of its kind in the clutch) is the one further to the back, and its eyecolor showed up much better in this photo. The amel in front is its sibling.

I especially like the comparative quality of the picture ... well done!

However, that poses quite the little mystery there, doesn't it? It's seems to be quite different from the regular amel eye coloration, but the animal is obviously amel. I wonder what those two will look like when they've all shed?

Due to the numbers involved, it seems rather mendelian, don't you think? I don't think hypo would do that to the eye color, but tyrosinase positivism might (???). Given that you have seen them up close and personal, what are your ideas on this?

Keep the pics coming!

I'll know better once it hatches out... I'd actually say that this animal looks more like a hypo lav hatchling than an amel with weird eyes... atleast from the head and neck. Darn thing's shy about coming out of its egg though. I hope it's not kinked...that would be just my luck. (fingers crossed)

I wondered about that possibility as well, but the comparative picture of the two babies (one obviously amel) made me consider otherwise. If you look at the borders around the saddles (at least those int he picture) of both snakes, they seem to be of the same color. Now, it's always tough to tell on ababy that has yet to shed, but I just have never seen pics of a hypo lav hatchling that was SO very light. I'm sure it's more than just possible, but I haven't seen any. it would really be cool if those were hypo lavs and so light, like that, though!

I hope the baby isn't kinked up in there. Please keep us all posted as to their progress, and some updated pics after they shed are a must, Kat!
