Disappearing eggs

Seanasaur Jul 21, 2004 08:39 PM

Hi all,
I have several mellanistic Elaphe quadrivirgata. One in particular was extremely gravid and layed 7 eggs, 4 days ago. It was obvious that she still had alot of eggs inside as the bumps and lumps were clearly visible. I thought she might have been having problems with her remaining eggs as her lower quarter seemed much narrower than her upper portion with all the bumps and lumps. Anyway, when I checked her this morning she was back to about pre-gravid size. I removed her from her enclosure and searched a couple of times for the eggs, but found nothing.
Has anyone got any idea what might have happened? Could she have re-absorbed the eggs?
Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Sean

did you happen to notice any large amount of feces in the cage in the next few days? I've heard of that happening.

There was no excess anything. I had another one about the same size which layed about 7 eggs and died a couple of days later. She had another 15 eggs inside her. The one with the disappearing eggs looked even more gravid than the one that died.
